For billions around the world poverty is not only into a struggle for food, shelter, health, and education — it exposes them to a vast spectrum of human rights abuses on a daily basis. In The Locust Effect: Why the End of Poverty Requires the End of Violence by Gary A. Haugen and Victor Boutros, take a journey through the often unheard of tribulations and fears a large portion of the world population is vulnerable to as a result of poverty.

Green gingerbread smoothie
I’m experimenting over here!
Ginger, spinach, cinnamon, banana, chia seeds, nutmeg and water. Top with pomegranate seeds.
Pro tip: Adding protein to your breakfast keeps you fueled until lunch! Happy snow day :)

“What is success? I think it is a mixture of having a flair for the thing that you are doing; knowing that it is not enough, that you have got to have hard work and a certain sense of purpose.”

It’s hard to find people who will look at criticism in a positive way, a way to improve oneself. Many of the people I talk to get so defensive about mistakes they’ve made and try to explain their way out of them. I’m probably one of those people too but hopefully I can slowly back away from this tendency. I guess we have to realize that we’re not perfect and receiving help from other people can be beneficial in the end.
